One of the many local sporting events held hostage by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, is this year’s Conference USA Tournament.
The tournament was supposed to start Wednesday, with the Southern Miss Golden Eagles coming in as the two-time reigning champions.
The “black and gold” have never missed championship Sunday, at MGM Park, where they most recently dispatched Florida Atlantic, 4-0, winning their third league crown in four years.
Ever since the CUSA tournament arrived in Biloxi in 2017 USM has gone 12-3.
Southern Miss Head Baseball Coach Scott Berry tells News 25, “Starting yesterday when we would have our head coaches meeting and go over the tournament rules and everything that’s pre-tournament festivities. To not have that today or during this time of year is certainly different than what I’ve experienced in a long, long time. You see a lot of black and gold when we’re playing there at MGM, and the tournament has been there the last three years and we’ve been fortunate to be in the championship all three years, giving our fan base, the city of Biloxi and the Coast an opportunity to come watch Golden Eagle baseball.”
