The Gulfport Harbor Market is set to reopen tomorrow following the loosening of COVID-19 restrictions.
Wednesday, May 13th is the first day back for the market at Jones Park’s Barksdale Pavilion from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Additionally, the market announced it will participate in the ‘Double Up Bucks’ program until October 2022.
Harbor Market Organizer Diane Claughton says the program increases the purchase of fruits and vegetables for SNAP users by doubling their dollars for more fresh produce. “What happens is if you come to the market with your EBT card you can get up to $20. It doesn’t have to be 20, it can be 10, five, anything up to $20. We run your EBT card through the machine and what it does is takes it off your EBT total and you get tokens for whatever amount you decide to get and those are the tokens that can be spent at the market. They are wooden tokens and you can spend them on anything edible.”
Items and produce sold at the harbor are produced within a 100 mile radius.
