Here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the South Mississippi Child Advocacy Center assists 876 kids in five coastal counties that include Jackson, George, Greene, Harrison, and Stone County.

Canopy Children Solutions Program Director Krystal Hilliard says this month is an opportunity to continue educating communities throughout South Mississippi about the signs and dangers of child abuse. “It’s a time that we have to shine a light on this terrible epidemic that’s been creeping into our backdoor for so many years. Child abuse happens to kids from various socioeconomic backgrounds. Anytime we can do something to get the word out about it and find ways we can try to get prevention methods out is so important.”

If you need to report child abuse you can do so by calling 1-800-222-8000.
