Governor Tate Reeves said last week that he would allow Misssissippi beaches and lakes closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic to reopen.
However, local governments are still allowed to use their own discretion when it comes to reopening their public spaces and can close them should they need to.
Harrison County reopened their beaches immediately over the weekend, but in Jackson County beaches remain closed.
The Jackson County Board of Supervisors will meet Monday morning at 9 a.m. to discuss whether beaches in their county should reopen.
The governor says social distancing still needs to be observed with no gatherings of groups larger than ten people.
