Winn-Dixie grocery stores are offering an additional hour of shopping on Mondays and Tuesdays for healthcare workers and first responders.
Winn-Dixie, owned by Southeastern Grocers, Inc., has stores on the Coast in Long Beach, Orange Grove in Gulfport and D’Iberville.
Healthcare personnel and first responders can visit any Winn-Dixie from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday evenings to participate in the special shopping hour.
“At Southeastern Grocers, we are a people-first company and we are dedicated to being there for the community when they need us most,” said Anthony Hucker, President and CEO of Southeastern Grocers. “Our first responders and healthcare providers are working extra-long hours to take care of the community and we want to do our part to take care of them.
“Beginning this Monday, all of our stores will remain open from 8 to 9 p.m. every Monday and Tuesday to allow these heroic individuals the opportunity to stock up on fresh food and essential items. We ask that our customers be respectful of this time we have dedicated to our front-line warriors.”
As a continued safety precaution, seniors and high-risk customers are invited to shop their Winn-Dixie grocery store from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., Monday through Friday. The grocer asks all customers to remain respectful of this time given to the elderly and other high-risk community members to allow them the comfort of purchasing necessary products in a safe environment.
The grocer has also strengthened safety measures to protect communities from COVID-19 by installing protective Plexiglas partitions at all store registers, customer service desks, pharmacies and liquor store counters. Additionally, all stores will initiate a two-cart-length distance between customers at checkout by utilizing floor markers to encourage and maintain social distancing.
