Secretary of State Michael Watson spoke with all 26 clerks impacted in that district and all but three advised that they would like to postpone the election based on concerns voiced by the election commissioners, clerk’s office employees, and as well as voters.

“I think it’s important that people know the secretary’s office is still here serving all Mississippians. I’ve been so honored and proud of the good work and the team of professionals that we’ve assembled in our office. We were told a couple weeks ago the governor sent out his first executive orders and asked us to deem the employees who are essential or non-essential and basically all of our employees are essential because the work that we do is so important to businesses and Mississippians. We impact every Mississippian in just about every day whether you know it or not.”

With other elections approaching, Secretary Watson says they are keeping a close eye on the developments of the Coronavirus to see if there are other opportunities to postpone.
