We continue to cast a light on prominent African-Americans here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
In this week’s ‘Soul of the Coast,’ News 25’s Victoria Bailey talks with Gulfport native Carlis Denials-Hinton.
She says her experience growing up on the Coast helped shape and impact her life. “They asked us, the students, if we wanted to desegregate the school system which is voluntary the first year. They didn’t just make it a requirement. They asked for volunteers. There were a lot of us who volunteered but there were only a few of us who actually went because it was a very trying time and a very scary situation.”
Tune in tomorrow night for the full conversation in the third part of ‘Soul of the Coast.’
