Hancock County Sheriff’s Department deputies have been cleared in an officer-involved shooting that claimed the life of a man in Hancock County in April of last year.
This week, a grand jury investigated the circumstances leading up to the shooting of Lawrence Bottoms, who was shot and killed after fleeing from a home back on April 29th as the sheriff’s department tried to serve a warrant for a high risk arrest.
According to authorities, 29-year-old Bottoms fled the home on foot after a 15 minute stand-off with law enforcement and was pursued by deputies when Bottoms pulled out an 8 millimeter gun and pointed towards authorities. That’s when deputies fatally shot Bottoms.
Bottoms was located at a home in Bay St. Louis and was wanted in Baton Rouge on criminal charges.
The grand jury found no criminal conduct on behalf of the officers involved from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and found their actions were appropriate and that no further action is warranted in this case.
