Recycling in Harrison County has seen a steady amount of growth over the past few years.
The Harrison County Utility Authority switched from smaller 18 gallon receptacles to larger 60 gallon roll-off ones for fiscal year 2018. In that time, the county’s recycling rate has gone from being in the five to seven percent range to hovering at around 35 percent.
The recycling rate is measured as the trash by weight collected that goes through the recycling process instead of going to a landfill. John Wilson with the Harrison County Utility Authority said, “We couldn’t be more proud of the Harrison County people. Every resident has responded and they’re making this happen.”
