Steak Cook-Off Competition at the Shed


The grills are fired up in Ocean Springs tonight as 200 teams from across the country are at the Shed BBQ and Blues Joint for a chance to win big.

Four-time World Champ Johnny Joseph said, “You can’t miss a bobble on nothing with 200 teams. There’s only 10 winners.” The Steak Cook-Off Competition is on for the second year in row. “We’ve got the best beef money can buy, which is Haskell’s beef. It’s a waygu breed.  As a competitor, that is great. The awards are phenomenal. The competition is off the chart. They don’t know who you are. Everything is blind judged. It goes by appearance, doneness, texture, taste, and overall impression.”

Along with the steak competition judges will examine a rib category, turkey category, and even a Blood Mary category.

Brooke Lewis is a co-owner of the Shed and she says they are excited to help put the Mississippi Gulf Coast on the map. “Teams representing 29 states across the country that are here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast enjoying the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but they’re also here to compete and win over $20,000 in cash and another $15,000 in prizes. So we’re honored just to be here having this party tonight and having the competition tomorrow.”

The competition kicks off at 6:30 Saturday morning and is free and open to the public. “Tomorrow we’re encouraging the Coast to come out and checkout the competition world and what it’s like.”

“Y’all need to come out to the Shed tomorrow and check it all out. Go around, visit the teams, and they’ll be some samples there. You can’t go wrong.”
