Two people are dead and two more are injured following a shooting Wednesday night in Bay St. Louis.
In a press conference today, Bay St. Louis Chief Gary Ponthieux updated the public on the shooting which left 19-year-old Cheyenne Schultz and 23-year-old Morgan Landry dead.
Bay St. Louis police arrested 23-year-old Jason Michel on a slew of charges including murder.
According to police, Michel ‘ambushed’ the four victims at the Bay Park Apartments. One victim remains in critical condition and another person has been discharged with injuries that are not life-threatening.
Police, with the help of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, took Michel into custody last night after he allegedly fled the scene of the shooting in a stolen vehicle then took another vehicle at gunpoint at a Waveland gas station.
According to Chief Ponthieux, police received a call from Michel’s mother, alerting them that Michel was at her residence in the Bayside Park community armed with a shotgun and covered in blood. “At this time, we haven’t determined an exact motive, but I can tell you that our preliminary investigation has determined that the victims do not know the suspect, they’re not known to each other. As far as motive, we’re still investigating possible motives. Everything right now is just leading to a random act of violence, senseless violence,” said Chief Ponthieux.
Michel is being charged with one count of murder, one count of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of carjacking, and one count of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He is being held on a $3.6 million bond at the Hancock County Jail.
