Bay St. Louis residents will be heading to the polls today to vote on a proposed 2% food and beverage sales tax increase.
It will take 60% of the vote to pass.
City officials proposed the increase to help raise money for parks and recreation facilities and tourism throughout Bay St. Louis.
How would this increase affect food and beverage purchases in the city if it passes? If you purchase a cup of coffee for three dollars, you’ll be paying an extra six cents in tax on it.
Anyone registered in the city can vote on the measure today. Polls opened at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 7:00 p.m.
