Cheerleading squads at Harrison County high schools are celebrating following the state championships this past weekend.
Harrison Central High’s squad were winners in the varsity co-ed performance category and D’Iberville High School won in the 5A-6A Game Day category at the Varsity State Championships in Jackson.
The cheerleading squad at West Harrison High School took home the top prize in Varsity Co-Ed Game Day. It’s the first time in school history the squad has taken home a state championship.
They are now hard at work preparing for the UCA Nationals at Walt Disney World in February. West Harrison High Cheerleader Kaley Weaver said, “A lot of us are first time cheerleaders, like a lot of our dudes. They’ve really stepped up to the plate. They’re just, they just amaze us every day because they’re so quick at learning everything. It’s just amazing how we can win a state championship with so many new cheerleaders.”
