It’s a blast from the past. This month you’ll have a chance to look at the Biloxi Tourism Industry through the eyes of a 1950s photographer.
The Mississippi Gulf Coast has had a long history with the tourism industry. Photographer Chauncy Hinman spent most of his 30 year career documenting our Coast. His images cover a variety of subjects from outdoor activities to long forgotten pieces of history.
The Biloxi Public Library has gathered thousands of these images and they will be on display for everyone to see starting next week. E.W. Suarez with the Local History and Genealogy Department said, “There are forgotten landmarks that he took images of. For example, Jack Adams Reptile Park in Long Beach, it only lasted a few years, but his images, one of them being in the exhibition, gives you an example of what people were doing then.”
The exhibit will kick off on December 11th at 5:30 p.m. at the Biloxi Public Library. This exhibit is free and open to the public and will run until mid-January.
