Despite a one-sided affair in last season’s Egg Bowl, this year’s installment of the Magnolia State rivalry has a bit of a different feel to it.
While Mississippi State won handily last season 35-3, this year’s matchup paints a different picture.
Ole Miss, losers of four out of their last five, will be playing for pride as they’re officially out of contention for a spot in a bowl game.
While the Bulldogs have struggled at times this year, State still sits at 5-6, meaning a win on Thanksgiving night not only keeps the Golden Egg in their possession, but gives them bowl eligibility. Mississippi State Head Coach Joe Moorhead said, “It’s not something that we really even need to talk about. We’re right on the cusp of bowl eligibility and you know we got to win this one to get to the postseason. I don’t believe in feeling pressure. I believe in applying pressure. So, they know that we need to have a great week of preparation.”
Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. from Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville. Ole Miss leads the series by 17 games.
