Holiday season wouldn’t be complete without the food, but be mindful. Thanksgiving is the peak for home cooking fires.
To prevent the worst from happening just follow some simple cooking procedures such as not leaving the kitchen while cooking or setting multiple cooking timers.
For those who choose to fry their turkey, do it in an uncovered area outside. Also make sure that the turkey is completely thawed before frying.
Gulfport Fire Chief Michael Beyerstedt tells News 25 following these simple tips could prevent a holiday from turning tragic. “We associate Thanksgiving with good times, good food, but it’s also the number one day of the year for structure fires in North America. So, that’s something I think that most people don’t really realize and it’s true by a wide margin.”
