The inaugural Diamondhead Festival and BBQ Competition is set to kick off tomorrow.
Folks can expect live music from the David Mayley and Honey Island Swamp bands, along with a kids zone, plenty of arts and crafts, and plenty of BBQ.
City Manager Michael Reso says this is something he’s excited to see finally come together. “We’ve been working on this for six months and it is fun to see the stage set up. The teams are showing up with their campers and they will be sleeping out here tonight and they’ve already started cooking. We’ve inspected some meat and they are getting to work.”
Jack Lastorka with Somos BBQ Team said, “Most of the time we just come out here to just to cook and have a good time. Personally some guys like to hunt which I like to hunt, but me I’d just like to sit in front of my smoker.”
The event is located just off Airport Drive and west of the Diamondhead Marina. Admission is free and the festival runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
