It is a historic day for Gulfport Fire Department as they broke ground this morning on station number nine in the Orange Grove community.
This station is located on Dedeaux Road and many members of the community and city officials were in attendance for today’s celebration.
This new station will be equipped with a classroom, gym, new safety features, and more. It is ultimately designed to help the firefighters do their job in the most efficient way possible.
The firefighters who will be serving their community helped design and make decisions about this new facility so they could get the best use out of it. Gulfport Fire Chief Mike Beyerstedt said, “We wanted to start out with that as our base point. How can we make this facility serve you better because in reality it is a tool for our firefighters. So, we took their input and incorporated those suggestions into the design of it. It has just been a smooth transition.”
This construction is under a one year contract so they hope to have it up and running by October 2020.
