Today is ‘World Diabetes Day’ and community members in Ocean Springs spent part of their day talking about the importance of diabetes awareness.
The Ocean Springs Lions Club held a diabetes roundtable during their regular meeting at Aunt Jenny’s Catfish Restaurant. Attendees talked about the warning signs and symptoms of type one and type two diabetes as well as diabetes prevention.
Dennis Richardson is a Lions Club member who has type two diabetes and says getting screened is important. “Go get checked. It doesn’t take much to do it and most insurance will pay for it. Just ask for an A1C, if you’re feeling tingly feet or you’re thirsty all the time.”
The Lions Club will offer free eye screenings and blood glucose screenings for all ages at Ocean Springs Discount Pharmacy on December 7th.
