The message from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston is ‘thank you’ to those who served our country both past and present.
Tonight, the 5th annual Veterans Tribute Tri-Art-A-Thon kicked off and was full of gratitude. The event featured a student art show and gallery talk, patriotic performances by Perkinston Elementary Kids Choir and Stone County’s Civil Air Patrol and that’s just to name a few.
Shellye Parish-Smith with MGCCC says giving thanks to service members is something she’s done her whole life and will continue to do. “I received my education because my dad was a Vietnam veteran. He served four tours in the Navy. He actually just passed away two years ago from cancer, but it means something to me. So when I see my students, when they come in I can relate with them and making sure that they are on target, they’re on task, they’re receiving their money from the government so that they can get their education.”
The event also included a wreath laying with ‘Echo Taps’ and a presentation of a patriotic ornament by the visual arts department.
