Students at D’Iberville High School and members of the community came together to give back to our veterans in a tasty way this morning.
The ROTC program and Community Service Class at the school served a hot breakfast of pancakes, eggs, and sausage to military veterans from nursing homes, the VFW, and the veteran family members of current students.
This is their fifth annual breakfast and it’s grown each year, starting with just 12 veterans to now as many as 124.
Community Service Class Coordinator Wayne Ducomb says it couldn’t have been done without the community’s support. “We went about the community asking for donations, we did fundraisers, we did gift card giveaways. So we raised the money to pay for the food. We’ve had sponsors and local businesses step up and pay for certain items. So it’s been a whole community effort, even the city of D’Iberville has stepped up.”
ROTC student Alaric Deeds said, “It means a lot to me and other people who have had veterans in their family and know what it is like to go through this ceremony.”
