It is a day of mourning for the Diocese of Biloxi as Bishop Roger Paul Morin, the Third Bishop of Biloxi, who died just a week ago was laid to rest today.
Those who knew and loved Bishop Morin filled the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Downtown Biloxi this morning to pay their respects.
Bishop Morin passed away on October 31st while returning to Biloxi after vacation with his family in Massachusetts. He passed away during his flight. He was 78.
Today, Bishop Morin was honored for his devotion to Christ and laid to rest in the Bishop’s Gravesite at the back of the cathedral. Nativity Cathedral Parishioner Beverly Williams said, “Bishop Morin was one of a kind. He had a sense of humor and when he gave a sermon or homily they had meat to it. They were simple, but very profound and I was privileged to know him.”
Captain with the Knight of Peter Claver Michael Griffin said, “Bishop Morin was the type of guy to also make you feel comfortable. I always joked with him that he missed his calling to tell jokes.”
Bishop Morin was named Bishop of Biloxi on March 2nd, 2009. His motto was “walk humbly and act justly.” Those who attended today’s services said he lived a life that embodied just that.
