The American Red Cross needs your help! They are looking for volunteers to help canvas neighborhoods in Biloxi.
This is all a part of the Red Cross’s new campaign called ‘Sound the Alarm.’ Volunteers are needed to help install fire alarms or replace old ones in Biloxi neighborhoods while getting the word out about the importance of working fire alarms.
That’s why the Biloxi Fire Department is offering to replace old or broken ones free of charge.
Biloxi Fire Chief Joe Boney says it’s the first line of defense in protecting your family from a fire. “The number one problem when people have fires in their homes is they don’t have working smoke detectors. That’s the number one killer in the country. When we have residential fires the smoke detectors are either deactivated or the batteries are bad. And then we gladly come in, we don’t charge a penny, we install them in the proper locations so that they can get as much early warning as they can in the case of their home catching fire.”
If you’d like to help out in this safety campaign, just head on over to the Biloxi Fire Station on Porter Avenue on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers will be assigned neighborhoods to canvas later that morning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
