Yet another must see Cruisin’ event ‘The Flame Throwing Competition’ just finished up at the Island View Casino Resort.
As the sun set on the Island View Casino and Resort, the heat turned up at the annual ‘Cruisin’ the Coast Flame Throwing Competition.’ Site Manager Terry Ward said, “People just like this kind of thing they like to see those flames. Most of them like to see what kind of things people can come up with to shoot the flames.”
Fire breathing, tricked-out hot rods traveled from all over the world to show off their best stuff. Competitor JR McMurray said, “We’re going to give it our best. We’re gonna turn the lights on the siren. We’re gonna drag the bumper across the ground. We’re going to give it the best show we can. Now, if it doesn’t win we’ll come back next year bigger.”
Competitor Eric Windsor said, “My flames are all motor. I don’t have any fuel pumps anything like that. It’s old-school hot rod flames.”
Nine cars entered this year’s competition all vying for the title of ‘Top Flame Thrower,’ $300 cash and the ‘Flame Thrower Championship’ trophy.
This is Windsor’s second time participating and he says he knows he’s new to the game, but hopes to improve. “Last year, I came and I had only the big blue flames with the small pipes. I had these pipes on here and now I can throw big, yellow flames. So, each year I’m just trying to upgrade.”
Island View Entertainment Manager Jennifer Lee said, “We had a great turnout for tonight’s event. It’s something that everyone looks forward to the whole year long. This is a unique event for ‘Cruisin the Coast’ and we had a large group of spectators out. We had all four floors of the parking garage full. So it was a great year for us.”
Tonight’s ‘Top Flame Thrower’ Champion is Mike Chrostowski from Texas with his 1941 Dodge. He won $300 in cash and the ‘Top Flame Thrower’ trophy.
