Today was an exciting day for the City of D’Iberville and its first responders. This morning, they broke ground on their brand new police headquarters.
Police, city, and state leaders were all in attendance for the groundbreaking ceremony this morning. The new state-of-the-art complex will be on Lamey Bridge Road, north of the fire department south of I-10.
City leaders say the new police department will provide a safer working environment for officers, a training facility, modern technology, and the capability to sustain officers for long periods of time, including times of any natural disaster.
Police Chief Wayne Payne tells News 25 this upgrade is going to significantly help the police department. “Right now, we are in about 4,500 square feet. This building is going to be about 17,000 square feet. Right now, we have to share a bathroom with inmates and the citizens and the police officers and that is just one thing. We have grown out of the building.”
The new headquarters are expected to be completed with 12 to 14 months.
