Last week, News 25 told you about Chupy, the Jackson County dog who had been badly abused. He touched the hearts of many people here on the Coast.
Chupy the dog has been through a lot in his 18 years of life. Last week, he ended up at the Jackson County Animal Shelter in pretty bad shape. Jackson County Animal Shelter Adoption Coordinator Maridee Mallette said, “Chupy got pulled into rescue by Just Cause, it’s an awesome rescue that saves Pitbulls and other dogs, too. So, they help local shelters get dogs get out of shelters and into real homes.”
Just Cause Rescue saw Chupy’s story on News 25 and knew they had to do something to help. Just Cause Rescue President Geanne Montana said, “His skin, he just looked so itchy and miserable. I know how hot and itchy I am in the summer and it was just sad, very sad.”
Now, Chupy is comfortable at his new home in Oxford with his foster mom, Emily Slocum. News 25 spoke with Emily and she says Chupy is feeling a lot better already. “He’s just been trotting around, sometimes he gets a little pep in his step. He’s got the cutest little jump and he jumps out of the door. He seems happy. He seems very happy.”
Emily hopes that other people will be inspired by Chupy’s story and foster older or abused dogs. “There are so many dogs that need to be fostered in Jackson County Animal Shelter and the Humane Society of South Mississippi and at all the shelters and the rescues around. Old ones, young ones, middle-aged ones, abused ones, spoiled ones that somehow end up there, there is just a ton of dogs and they all need our help.”
