The Gulfport Police Department is reaching out to the youth of the community by holding a cruiser car show.
The kids at the Boys and Girls Club of the Gulf Coast got a chance to check out the different types of police cruisers. There were vintage vehicles, a SWAT truck, and the Gulfport Police Department pink cruiser in honor of ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month.’
Program Coordinator Kristian Deloaceh says this is an excellent way to show the students that officers are friends, not foes. “They are really working on building those community relations that we have with them and that’s really important with kids. You want to teach them at a young age that police are here to protect and serve. Building those community relationships, how important that is and we really want to teach them that the police are here to help and teach them to really appreciate their first responders.”
