The Peoples Bank in Biloxi presented over $10,000 in checks to two local charities as part of the company’s employees’ charity fund program.
These lucky charities were the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The bank annually matches employee’s fundraising efforts and rewards them for their community service throughout the year. Each employee that raised $100 or more received an extra day off.
Each of the charities that received donations today are local to the Coast which was an important factor in the decision to donate to them. The Peoples Bank CEO and President Chevis Swetman said, “We just think we are a community bank who is here for the community. We want to do as much as we can for the community because we are part of the community and when the community does well, we do well. We try and steer away from charities where most of the money goes out of state. We want to see most of the money stay local to help the locals.”
This past year, they had 140 employees participate and had 529 community service hours worked, raising a total of $11,865.
