On average, a woman in the U.S. has a one in eight chance of developing breast cancer in her lifetime. The number of cases is disproportionally higher across the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Tonight, the Scarlet Pearl Casino hosted the sixth annual ‘Race for the Cure’ kickoff reception. The ‘Race for the Cure’ raises funds for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Tonight, Pamela Killingsworth, the 2019 Survivor of the Year, was honored at this event.

Killingsworth said she was incredibly excited to represent the organization this year. “Oh man, I feel awesome. This is really great. I’ve had a lot of fun with it. I am going to continue to have fun with it. I am going to continue to tell my story and hopefully I will do somebody some good, maybe ease their transition a little bit because it is a very difficult transition.”

The Gulf Coast ‘Race for the Cure’ will take place on September 7th at Jones Park. You can register for this run here.
