We are learning more about the man killed in last night’s officer-involved shooting in Moss Point.
The man, identified as 27-year-old Toussaint Sims of Moss Point, was wanted on multiple felony warrants when police got a tip he was at a Pascagoula convenience store yesterday afternoon.
A Moss Point resident told News 25 that while she and her children were eating dinner, they heard gunshots around their home.
After looking into her backyard, she spotted the suspect on her fence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. “I never seen anything, I just heard gunshots. I told everybody in the house, told the kids to get down. I had to get my kids out their room and tell them to come in the front with us because they were in the back in their room on the side that it happened on.”
According to Chase Elkins with Mississippi Highway Patrol, no officers were injured in the shooting.
In a statement released this morning, Moss Point Police Chief Brandon Ashley said he was “truly saddened by the events that occurred on August 8th, 2019.”
Chief Ashley is also asking the public to “not make assumptions about what occurred based on preliminary and conflicting statements.”
