The Biloxi Lighthouse is a staple in the City of Biloxi and one of the oldest of its kind in the United States.

Today is National Lighthouse Day and the Biloxi Visitors Center wanted to do something special to celebrate. From 4 to 5 this afternoon, they gave free tours.

This lets visitors and residents have a chance to see the city from a new height and learn about the history of the lighthouse. It’s only the third cast-iron lighthouse that was built in the country, back in 1848.

It is also the only one still standing in its original location. City of Biloxi Historical Administrator Bill Raymond said, “I mean it is so unique. There is no other lighthouse in the world that is exactly like our lighthouse. You come to Biloxi, you get to that lighthouse and you know you’re here because it is a symbol of our community. It is on our city crest. Everything you know, the most recognizable attraction in Biloxi or landmark in Biloxi is the Biloxi Lighthouse.”

If you missed out on the tours today, they hold them every day from 9 to 10. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under.
