So far, the Coast is clear here in South Mississippi when it comes to vibrio-infested waters, but years ago there were several cases reported by locals and visitors on the Coast who said they contracted the flesh-eating bacteria after coming into contact with water along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Just what is vibrio-and what are — and have been — its effects here in our area? Just one of the questions Dr. Jay Grimes will answer at the second installment of a summer lecture series set to take place this Thursday, July 25th at the Maritime Activities Center on Dupont Street in Pascagoula.
The event starts at 6 pm and is part of the Mississippi Maritime Museum’s summer lecture series. This Thursday event is supported by the Gulf Coast Research Lab and the Mississippi Maritime Museum, in ongoing efforts to educate our local community on marine affairs.
The event is free and open to the public.
