A silent auction, keynote speaker, and delicious steak was the name of the game at the 27th annual Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County’s Steak and Steak Dinner.
The Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County helps over 650 kids throughout the year. 2018-2019 Youth of the Year Ny’Dria Williams said, “They have motivated me to be the person that I am today, to be a leader, and not a follower and to be who I want to be and become who I want to become in the future.”
On Tuesday night, the club hosted their 27th annual Steak and Steak Dinner. This event is more than just a nice meal. It also raises around $60,000 for the kids. Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County CEO Catherine Glaude said, “The fundraiser, these dollars that we raise at our Steak and Steak Dinner, is strictly for the operation of our organization. We serve 650 children here in Jackson County annually so those dollars will go directly to operations.”
Pascagoula native Sarah Thomas, the first female referee in the NFL, was the keynote speaker for this year’s fundraiser. Boys and Girls Club of Jackson County Board of Directors Member Richard Lucas said, “You need to be able to look up to these people and say ‘hey, look. She is from Pascagoula and look what she did’ because it gives you that feeling if you do things right and go to school and do all the things that we always tell our kids to do as they are coming up then they too can have great success.”
If you missed out on the event this year, you can always give back to the Boys and Girls Club in other ways.
