Port of Gulfport creates jobs on the Coast

It’s been 13 years since Hurricane Katrina hit the Coast and a new report says since then, the Port of Gulfport has done a great job of creating jobs.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development reviewed the Mississippi Development Authority regarding the record of jobs created at the Port and they say MDA has met the national requirement by HUD.

The report says at least 51 percent of the jobs created at the Port of Gulfport are held or made available to low- and moderate-income people, thanks in part to HUD’s $570 million investment after Katrina.

Governor Phil Bryant says this is an important milestone that shows the economic strength of the Port of Gulfport Restoration Project.
