A Biloxi City councilwoman is headed to our nation’s capital to visit with politicians regarding the Bonnet Carre Spillway openings.
Ward Three City Councilwoman and State Senate candidate Dixie Newman will be heading to Washington D.C. on Wednesday to discuss the environmental emergency our state is facing.
Newman scheduled her trip weeks back after taking a closer look at the devastation on the Coast.
Newman is planning to meet with Senator Roger Wicker, Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, and Congressman Steven Palazzo. “The devastation that’s been going on with our marine life down here has definitely been an eye-opener. I believe now is definitely the time to go to the root of the problem and make the right partnerships now so we can get things done. We can hopefully prevent also future disasters.”
The Army Corps of Engineers announced today they don’t have plans of closing the Bonnet Carre Spillway for at least the next month.
