Hundreds of Southern Company employees within the emergency response teams are on the Coast this week for their annual ‘Rescue Rodeo.’
Southern Company is made up of Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia Power and representatives from each state are here. This ERT rescue rodeo helps prepare first responder employees for emergency situations on the job.
During the rodeo, teams train in different rescue scenario stations, some competitive, some not.
Those with Southern Company say it is crucial to hold this rodeo so they can be prepared. Mississippi Power Plant Watson Manager Conrad Amos said, “We try to expose them to all different types of scenarios. We try to keep them somewhat secretive because there is a little bit of competition between the different teams. Each plant wants their teams to respond the best to those different scenarios.”
This is the first time in ten years the Rescue Rodeo has been held on the Coast.
