It takes just two seconds to buckle up when going for a drive, but for whatever reason, many people skip this potentially life-saving step.
Which is why, starting today, the Biloxi Police Department will be taking part in the ‘Click it or Ticket’ campaign. Until June 2nd, Biloxi officers will be taking a no-excuses approach to seat belt law enforcement, writing citations day and night.
A press release from Biloxi law enforcement says in 2017, five Biloxi community members died and 23 community members were injured all because they were not wearing their seat belts. Major Chris De Back said, “The Biloxi Police Department is going to be out at various intersections looking for drivers and passengers not wearing their seat belts. Certainly it is important for people to wear their own seat belts for their own safety while operating a motor vehicle. With this weekend being Memorial Day is no exception, a lot of cars will be on the road. We just want to make sure everyone is safe.”
In Biloxi, the maximum penalty for a seat belt violation is $25 per person.
