Despite breaking every major passing record at Southern Miss as a four year starter, Nick Mullens had to grind his way to his first-ever NFL start as an undrafted free agent. Today, a similar journey begins for yet another four-year starter hailing from USM.
Picasso Nelson Jr. has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent and was the only player to do so from the class of 2019.
Nelson started ten games as a freshman in 2014 and never looked back, leading the nation’s third-ranked defense with 59 total tackles in 2018.
The former Oak Grove Warrior has three relatives with NFL experience and was named USM’s best male citizen in 2018.
Nelson leaves for Florida on May 9th.
