With Black Beach Weekend a little over a week away, locals on the Coast and visitors from other states are gearing up for one of the biggest events of the year.
For the first time, the party actually starts on Thursday, April 11th. According to promoter Derrian Burns, Black Beach Weekend is recognized on a national level as thousands come to enjoy concerts, car shows, food, and much more.
Burns tells News 25 the revenue generated from tourism is another factor in what makes this event unique. “It caters to the urban market. It caters to markets that normally wouldn’t have an economic impact during other events. So, it just spreads out, spreads the wealth out through everybody and people enjoy themselves and do pretty good financially.”
Traffic plans are set to remain the same as last year. The plan limits Highway 90 traffic to one-lane westbound and one-lane eastbound between I-110 in Biloxi and Cowan Road in Gulfport.
