When you think about the economy of the Gulf Coast entities like Stennis Space Center, the Port of Gulfport, and casinos may come to mind, but one you may forget is the airport.
The Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport has a significant impact on the Mississippi Gulf Coast economy and this morning Executive Director Clay Williams stopped by the Knight Nonprofit Center in Gulfport to give residents an update on the impact the airport makes in a competitive industry.
Williams says the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport annually has a $299 million economic impact on the Coast. “If you look at direct jobs associated with the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport, our tenants, vendors, and others that are not only working on the commercial side, but on the military side, you have a little over 1,300 direct jobs. In the local coastal economy, there are 1,969 jobs that are impacted by this airport.”
The airport continues to grow as they gear up to launch two new seasonal routes to Austin, Texas and Fort Meyers, Florida.
