When Southern Miss hosted Mississippi State to open up the 2018 campaign, the two teams combined to score at least seven runs in all three games of the series. But game one of this year’s series wasn’t that.
Golden Eagles making their first appearance in Starkville in ten years, having swept the Bulldogs in Hattiesburg last year.
Golden Eagles win 1-0.
Here’s Mississippi State Head Coach Chris Lemonis on the performance of his Friday night ace in a loss. “That’s the best I’ve seen him, I mean that’s the best I’ve seen him right there. Be low, stuff, hitting spots, changing his rhythm, he was, man, a Friday night ace. I hate that we don’t get the win for him because he pitched so well.”
The Golden Eagles have now beaten the Bulldogs in five straight regular season games. Game two of the series will get started at noon Saturday and game three at 1 p.m. Sunday.
