If you saw Keston Hiura play with the Biloxi Shuckers last season then you saw the best second baseman in all of minor league baseball according to MLBPipeline.com.
More than likely the 2017 first round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers will be on the fast track to the majors as one of just 14 non-roster invitees to this year’s spring training.
Overall, Hiura is considered a top 20 prospect, showing off all five tools during his time in Biloxi with six home runs and 11 stolen bases across 73 games.
This morning, Shuckers Manager Mike Guerrero made a pit stop at MGM Park before flying out to Phoenix, Arizona. The reigning Southern League Manager of the Year says the Cactus League could be in for a show on Hiura’s way to The Show. “I don’t feel surprised by them saying he’s probably the best second baseman on the 10 top prospects, that’s not surprising for me. Won’t be a surprise if down the line he’ll be an all-star second baseman or win a batting crown. I think he’s better than advertised, way better. And he’s a guy that plays the game the right way and plays the game to win.”
The Shuckers will lead off their 2019 campaign with a five game home series against the Birmingham Barons starting April 4th.
