Mississippi has one of the highest obesity rates in the country, but changing that statistic doesn’t have to be hard.
Fitness trainer Jodi Ryder from the YMCA says doing little things everyday can make a huge change in one’s health and wellbeing.
Ryder says the hardest part is sticking to your plans to exercise and to not get overwhelmed by options. “It’s called decision fatigue and that’s because we wake up in the morning and we decide all day long. We decide what am I going to wear, what shampoo am I going to use, and what am I going to eat for breakfast? So it’s either small changes such as what color pen am I going to write with today or big ones like where am I going to work, what is my career going to be? These all add up. And so by the end of the day we are tired of making decisions and we don’t want to figure out what to cook cause we already thought about that five times today already, we don’t want to figure out what we are going to do for exercise.”
Ryder says the best way to avoid decision fatigue when it comes to being healthy is to meal prep and pre-plan your workouts.
