It’s that time of year again for all things Mardi Gras and that includes king cake. The City of Ocean Springs kicked off their annual king cake voting contest today to get in the spirit.
Each week two different king cakes will be voted on a 1-5 scale until the winner is determined. It’s not just king cakes. It’s also king cake treats like king cake donuts, all those participating in the contest are local to Ocean Springs.
Visitors can come by anytime between 9 to 4 to cast their vote. The visitor’s center holds this annual contest to let Gulf Coast visitors have a taste of Mardi Gras. Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cynthia Sutton said, “We don’t just have the king cake contest here in Ocean Springs. We’re also helping to educate the locals and the visitors about the history of Mardi Gras season and the history of king cake. So, we have a lot of brochures and some articles here that we pass out to our visitors that come throughout the season. In addition to that we also have the full Mardi Gras schedule so we help to pass out for the entire Mississippi Gulf Coast.”
If you would like to submit your king cake to the contest just contact the Ocean Springs Visitor Center for details.
