One staple each carnival season is South Mississippi’s Mardi Gras parades.
A lot of crews are putting the finishing touches on their floats that will be rolling in this year’s parades. The Krewe of Gemini, Gulfport’s official Mardi Gras crew, is celebrating a major milestone this year: their 50th anniversary.
There will be two parades this year: Saturday, March 2nd and Fat Tuesday, March 5th.
Both parades will follow the same route, but Krewe of Gemini’s Captain, Shellie Moses, tells News 25 this year’s route has changed just a bit to cover more territory and roll past more businesses in the downtown area.
The parades will start at 19th Street and roll south down Highway 49, wrapping through the downtown area between 27th and 22nd Avenues then taking an upward turn north back up Highway 49, ending where the parade started.
Known as a family friendly parade, tens of thousands of revelers attend the Krewe of Gemini parades each year.
