The Sands, a beach front town home development in Ocean Springs, has hit a road block.
Tuesday night the Planning Commission denied approval on the sketch plat for the development which now means the board of alderman and the mayor will have to vote if they should move forward with construction of the 57 town homes.
Ocean Springs City Planner Wade Morgan tells News 25 the Planning Commission’s denial comes after about a three hour discussion at the council meeting and hearing from residents as well as developers from Butler Homes. “The reasons that the developers had for requesting the type of development it couldn’t be supported by the zoning regulations. It’s very simple. There are sections of the zoning regulations that had to be met and they didn’t feel that the developers met those requirements.”
The board of alderman will vote on the Planning Commission’s recommendation to deny the sketch plat approval at their next meeting on January 15th. It’s at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
