In just a few weeks, the restoration project of downtown Biloxi is expected to be complete and there are signs showing daily progress.
Today, sidewalks were paved on Howard Avenue next to the People’s Bank. This side of Howard Avenue has yet to be completed like the other side west of Lameuse Street, but they are almost ready to lay the final bricks down.
After Howard Avenue is finished up, the city expects more traffic from visitors and new businesses.
News 25 spoke with Vincent Creel with the City of Biloxi who says the Howard Avenue Restoration has seen many obstacles which is why it has been such a long process. “Our challenge in Biloxi is anytime we put a shovel in the ground, we’re not sure what we’re going to hit. The work you see right here required a change order because the workers came across 100-year-old pipes and those pipes were going to be failing before long. So, what they did was they went ahead and pulled them up and we’re replacing them.”
Creel also says the city plans on redoing the intersection near the Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home as well as making an easy drive directly into downtown.
