Throughout the holidays, D’Iberville police participated in the ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign.
This campaign is an effort to remind people of the dangers of driving under the influence. During this New Year’s holiday weekend, the D’Iberville police were out in full force with checkpoints and multiple patrols.
The D’Iberville Police Department made only seven DUI arrests during the New Year’s Holiday Weekend. D’Iberville police said they had most of their officers out during the holidays to ensure safety throughout the area.
Police Chief Wayne Payne says although the holidays are an important time to keep sober driving in mind, it is important all year round. “We stress this point year-round: don’t drink and drive. Have a plan if you’re going to have a party. Mardi Gras is right around the corner, have a plan. Don’t wait until you start drinking to say ‘what am I going to do? How am I going to get home?’ Have a plan before you start those activities.”
