The City of Biloxi signed an agreement with the Mississippi Department of Transportation to install about a mile of new sidewalk in Woolmarket.
The sidewalk would run from the intersection of Woolmarket Road and Lorraine Road, north of Lorraine Road to the nature’s trail subdivision and the intersection of Woolmarket and Lorraine Road east along Airport Road.
The project will cost right at a million dollars. The City of Biloxi has to come up with $176,000 of that million.
The rest of the money will come from the Mississippi Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. Vincent Creel with the City of Biloxi said, “We believe it is going to help make the community more walkable. It’s a public safety issue and these sidewalks will be ADA accessible. Those with wheelchairs or physically challenged will be able to navigate these sidewalks without much trouble.”
Construction for the sidewalk could begin by late fall 2019 and be completed by early 2020.
