Ocean Springs officially kicked off the Christmas spirit with their annual tree lighting at the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Center.
Dozens of families showed up to enjoy the beautiful lights set up on Government Street and enjoy some Christmas music and movies.
Children had fun with face painting and writing letters to Santa to send to the North Pole.
Of course, Santa himself was there meeting all the good boys and girls, even the Grinch showed up to spread some holiday cheer.
Ocean Springs Chamber of Commerce Tourism Director Cynthia Sutton said, “It’s just one of those events that is just a good down home community event that just shows support for the community and kids and families that are here in Ocean Springs.
Attendee Aria Joseph said, “It’s actually a good family event and I think it’s great, I like it.”
Attendee Jazley Joseph said, “I actually like being out here because family and friends can just get together and come together as one.”
Attendee Nashayla Richardson said, “It’s kind of fun being out here, you know, with friends and families of course and just enjoying yourself, communicating with your local neighbors.”
Tonight was the official kickoff for the Christmas season in Ocean Springs. Friday and Saturday they will have the holiday open house and Sunday they will have their first ever Christmas parade starting at 2 p.m.
